Scholarship Information

Saklan Valley School offers three scholarships:

Multiple scholarships are awarded so all eligible students are encouraged to apply. The Saklan Academic Merit Scholarship is available to new students and current students. The Head’s Scholarship and the Betty Hague Scholarship are available to current students.

Saklan Valley School Head’s Scholarship

This is a need-based scholarship that will not exceed $10,000 per year and will be renewed annually through graduation, assuming the recipient meets scholarship expectations. This scholarship will be awarded at the discretion of the Head of School and the Director of Admissions, and in consultation with the faculty.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be a current Saklan student ascending into Middle School. Applicants must meet the requirement of a student who consistently demonstrates the best characteristics of a Saklan student, including academic achievement, character, and active participation in the school community.

Betty Hague Scholarship

This scholarship is a tribute to Mrs. Betty Hague whose dedication and commitment to education opened educational opportunities to numerous children and families. Her generosity provides assistance to students so they may attend independent schools and participate in field trips and co-curricular school activities. The successful candidate will be awarded $3,000 tuition assistance. The Betty Hague Scholarship is a one-year award and is at the discretion of the faculty and Head of School.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be a current Saklan student, Kindergarten through 8th grade and must demonstrate exemplary character, academic diligence, and social leadership.

Saklan Valley School Academic Merit Scholarship

The Academic Merit Scholarship will be awarded to new students applying for admission to Middle School for the 2010-2011 academic year and currently enrolled Saklan students who will be rising into the 4th through 7th grades for the 2010-2011 academic year. This scholarship will be awarded at the discretion of the faculty and in consultation with the Director of Admissions and Head of School. The award consists of a tuition remission award renewed annually through graduation, assuming the recipient continually meets scholarship expectations. For the 2010-2011 academic year, the award amounts are as follows:

  • Lower School (4th & 5th grades) = $12,000
  • Middle School (6th, 7th & 8th grades) = $16,000

Eligibility:

Applicants must demonstrate exceptional academic performance, character, and leadership.

Academic Merit Scholarship Application Process

To be considered, applicants must complete all application requirements. Applicants should submit:

  • Current students (grades 4th – 8th) must complete the re-enrollment process to Saklan Valley School for the 2010-11 academic year
  • New students (grades 6th – 8th) must complete the application process to Saklan Valley School for the 2010-11 academic year
  • Completed 2010-211 Student Scholarship Application form
  • Student Essay
  • Letter of recommendation from an adult who has known the students for at least two years and is not a family member. The letter should be sent directly to Saklan Valley School, Attention Head of School, by the person who writes it.  Current Saklan teachers and employees are not eligible to write recommendations.
  • Parent Reflection
  • Student Interview

Scholarship Award recipients will be notified on Monday, April 26th. Applicants may also apply for financial aid through the regular tuition assistance process. The Academic Merit Scholarships award decisions are made independent of the financial aid awards and are based upon student merit.  Should a recipient qualify for financial aid, the amount of the Academic Merit Scholarship awards will be considered at that point in financial aid process.

Academic Merit Scholarship Selection Process

Applicants will be evaluated on the following:

  • Student academic performance (grades, comments, report cards)
  • Student Essay
  • Parent Reflection
  • Recommendation
  • Standardized Test Scores (ERB, STAR, etc.)
  • ISEE Results (new students)
  • Interview

Academic Merit Scholarship Timeline

  • Applications due: April 2nd
  • Student Interviews: April 12th-23rd
  • Notification:   April 26th  

Scholarship recipients are determined by the selection committees and all decisions are final.  Saklan Valley School reserves the right to use its discretion in the determination of merit and need.
