Application Process

For the 2010 - 2011 Academic Year

NOTE: Please reference the Admissions Calendar to ensure that all documents are handed in by their due date.

Early Childhood Application Process

Pre-School & Pre-K Application Checklist:

Parent Visit
Visiting the school prior to submitting your application is highly recommended. Group Tours are offered Friday mornings, 8:30-9:30 am beginning in October thru January 2010. Please refer to the Admissions Calendar for a date that is convenient for you. Personal tours will be scheduled at your convenience thru the Admissions Office.

Application
Complete and return your Application along with a non-refundable $75.00 application fee. We request that you include a photo of your child.

Parent Interview
Admissions will contact you to schedule a meeting.

Birth Certificate
Submit a copy of your child’s birth certificate. Preschool applicants must be 2.9 by the start of the school year and Pre-K applicants must be 3.9.

School Records
Please submit copies of any summaries or progress reports from your child’s current school.

Classroom Visit
Admissions will schedule a screening and visit date with you.

Lower School Application Process

Kindergarten – 5th Grade Application Checklist:

Parent Visit

Application

Birth Certificate
Kindergarten applicants only - Kindergarten applicants must be 5 years old on or before December 1 to be eligible for enrollment in the school year for which they are applying.

Teacher Recommendations
Sign blank Teacher Recommendation Form(s) (Kdg or 1 - 8) and give them to your child's current and/or recent teacher(s). Applicants to K and 1st grade only need one recommendation form; applicants to 2nd - 8th grades should obtain recommendations from two teachers. Teacher Recommendation forms should be mailed directly to Saklan by the teacher(s) completing them.

Student Testing
5th Grade Applicants – Register for and take the Independent School Entrance Examination (ISEE). You may register online at the Educational Records Bureau (ERB) website or by calling the ERB at 1-800-446-0320. Saklan’s School Code is 054189. This test will be administered at Saklan on December 5th and February 6th.

School Records
Sign the Records Release Form and give to your child's current school. Your child's current school should mail the records directly to Saklan Valley School. Kindergarten and 1st grade applicants do not need this form. It is important that your school send two completed years of transcripts (if applicable), in addition to the current year grades. If you attended more than one school during this time, please ask both schools to send transcripts.

Admissions will schedule a screening and visit date with you.

Middle School Application Process

Middle School Application Checklist:

Parent Visit

Application

Student Application
In their own handwriting, applicants should complete the Student Application and submit a one-page writing sample. This may be an assignment returned to the student in the last six months, or a one-page essay on a topic of the student's choice.

Student Testing
