From The Head of School

Dear Saklan Community:

As I wander around the campus observing students on the playground and in the classrooms, I can’t help but notice the camaraderie among our children. Students new to Saklan are acclimating well; they are smart, funny, articulate, and confident. The Saklan veterans have been welcoming, accepting, and sensitive to the trials and tribulations of being new to a school. It is truly an exceptional dynamic.

One of the special events at Saklan is Back to School Night (Thursday, September 10th, 6:30-8:00). The evening gives parents an opportunity to meet their child(ren)’s teachers and preview the upcoming year. Classroom and specialist teachers describe their programs, review expectations, and answer general questions. It is an enjoyable and informative evening. I encourage you to join us.

School pictures are scheduled and ready to go. Grades 3-8 will be photographed on Tuesday, October 13th; Pre-school through second grades on Friday, October 16th. We will be sending information home as the date approaches.

Many thanks to the Conlon-Demers family for the new play structure on our playground. The castle is a popular gathering point and play area for our younger students.

Allow me to close with a quick reminder about children returning to school after being sick. Students whose illness includes a fever and/or high temperature should not come back to school until 24 hours after their temperature returns to normal. If the illness includes a cough, congestion, and/or runny nose, please wait 24 hours after medication is administered to return to school. Thank you for your consideration and cooperation in this matter.

SAKLAN INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC PROGRAM

The Instrumental Music Program offered by Susan Bridges will begin school instruction on Monday, September 14th. For those interested in home instruction, lessons in your home will begin on Monday, September 28th. Registration forms are available in the main office or click here to download the registration form.

ADMISSIONS

Please join me welcoming our 39 new students this year, a total of 29 new families to the Saklan community! Our enrollment for the 2009-2010 school year is off to a strong start with 132 students!

Admission plans for the 2010-2011 season are well underway and your continued support as ambassadors of Saklan is greatly appreciated and welcomed. We do have openings across the grade levels for this school year, so please forward any and all interested families to me. The Admissions Calendar will soon be posted to keep you aware of all upcoming admission events.

MORNING ARRIVAL PROCEDURES

This is just a reminder to all parents about the morning arrival procedures. All classrooms open every morning at 8:15 am. Prior to 8:15 am, students are not permitted to wait in the playground areas or outside of their respective classrooms. Students and parents are welcome to wait outside of the front gate or outside of the Early Childhood foyer. Teachers are most likely in their classrooms prior to 8:15, however, we ask that everyone respect this policy as it gives our teachers the time they need to organize their classrooms for the day. Early Childhood and Lower School students who are in the yard prior to 8:15 will be asked to wait outside or sent to Extended Day and you will be billed accordingly. Middle School students may arrive beginning at 8:00 am and go to the Middle School quad area.

PRE-SCHOOL & PRE-K CHECK IN/OUT PROCEDURES:

At 8:15 am, the Early Childhood Foyer will open it's doors. All PreSchool and Pre-K parents must sign their child in each morning in the respective sign in books. You will also indicate if they are receiving a school lunch, staying for Extended Day, or staying for an After School Enrichment class. After signing in, please walk your child to their class.

At the 2:00 dismissal time, all Early Childhood parents are also required to sign their child out for the day. Once you have signed your child out, we ask that you wait outside of their respective classrooms in the front of the school, not the play yard side. By doing so, we will not be disturbing the the Kindergarten and Lower School classes that are still in session. Each teacher will open their door to greet you at 2:00 pm. Children staying for Extended Day will be brought to the extended day classroom by one of the teachers.

Again, we ask that you adhere to these procedures. If you have any questions, please contact the school office.

The online directory is now available for all families to utilize. You can view your child's classroom directory or locate any member of the community. Access to ParentsWeb is provided directly from our home page on the website. If you have not updated your family information or have not been able to access your account, please contact Adrian Bica at abica@saklan.org.

Updated yearly calendar and RenWeb

The print version of the calendar has been updated. The most current version of the calendar will always be available inside RenWeb therefore we encourage you to log into RenWeb as often as possible. RenWeb is the place where we will also post the most current announcements designed only for the Saklan community.
