FRiday Note - May-21-2010
Head's Corner
Dear Saklan Community:
I would like to start my message with a huge thank you to Mirabel Connor, Head for a Day. She was terrific at Flag this morning and gave a cookie to each student during Break. She and her administrative Team (aka friends) had lunch in my office. She assisted in writing my part of the Friday Note. She is a wonderful child.
The end of the year is fast approaching. Below please allow me to outline some of the up-coming events and address some housekeeping issues.

Letter to the parents from the board of trustees
Dear Saklan Families,
Saklan Valley School inspires its students to be creative thinkers, to treat others compassionately, and to approach challenges confidently. The quality of our program can be measured by high parent satisfaction ratings in our Parent Survey results, strong commendations from the CAIS/WASC re-accreditation team, outstanding student test scores, the success of our graduates in high school and college admissions, our low attrition rate, and the high level of participation in our community activities. We can also measure our success in the smiles on our children’s faces, the confidence with which they perform in public, the moments of enlightenment when they make connections between different areas of study, the kindness they show to each other, and the amazing work they accomplish.
Despite the excellence of our program, our enrollment numbers for the 2010-2011 school year are lower than expected. Most of our current families have re-enrolled, but inquiries from new families have been lower than in the past. NAIS statistics show that this has been a problem for independent schools across the nation this year due to the economic recession. In response, we are launching a new marketing program. We expect that, as in past years, we will continue to receive a significant number of applications over the summer.
We invite all parents to come to a Town Hall meeting on Tuesday, May 25, from 7:00-8:30pm at the church next door. Dave and the Board of Trustees will be there to share our plans for next year and to announce exciting new enrollment incentives that can benefit both current and future families. Babysitting will be available; please sign up in the front office if you plan to bring your child(ren). Come join us for this important meeting.
Sincerely,
Eliza Kirkpatrick
Chair, Board of Trustees
