FRiday Note - May-7-2010
Dear Saklan Community
We wish everyone a wonderful Mother's Day Weekend! Mr. Hague and ALL of the 6th graders have returned safely from Yosemite. We look forward to hearing about their trip and seeing pictures next week.
Please take a moment to read the following news article which appeared in yesterday's Contra Costa Times. It is so refreshing to know that our neighbors on School Street enjoy our Friday Flag assemblies as much as we do! Saklan is such a special place - it's nice to be recognized by members in the community. Please keep this article in mind as you visit with your friends and neighbors outside of school. If you know of a family that is interested in learning more about Saklan, please refer them to the Admissions office. We are in rolling admissions right now which means that we are accepting applications for the 2010-11 school year where spots are available.
SAKLAN IN THE NEWS...
May 6 Letters from our readers: Fine idea
On my daily walks, I pass Sakl
an Valley School in Moraga. On many good-weather days, morning assembly takes place in front of the school. I see many parents there and hear students honored for their birthday or for an achievement in the classroom.
Everyone sings "Happy Birthday" and claps. Sometimes they raise the American flag and all recite the Pledge of Allegiance. I see happy, respectful, engaged students and teachers. What a recipe for success!
It's a good idea for public schools to hold assemblies outside, weather permitting. If the student body is too large, just have a different class attend each day. Students who may never otherwise be recognized at least have their birthdays honored. It teaches respect for our flag and a spirit of support for one another.
