FRiday Note - FEbRuary-26-2010
Head's Corner
Dear Saklan Community:
The CAIS/WASC Visiting Team will be on Campus Monday and Tuesday. As you are aware, Saklan is currently accredited by both the California Association of Independent School (CAIS) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Because of our dual accreditation, the Visiting Team is comprised of three administrators from CAIS independent schools and one assistant superintendent from the public sector. The Chair of the Visiting Team is John Higgins, a seventeen year veteran as Head of School of Highpoint Academy in Pasadena.
During the visit, Team members will be visiting classes, speaking with teachers and students, and meeting with the Parent Association officers. It will be a very busy time for visitors and school personnel alike. I am, however, a great believer in the accreditation process-looking at your school with the help of qualified and experienced professionals and seeking and embracing constructive criticism. This visit, coupled with the in-depth self-evaluation process we undertook as we wrote our report, will provide us with a list of commendations, of which we should be proud, and recommendations that will make us a stronger and better school. I am looking forward to hearing the impressions the Team. Initial feedback has been very positive.
The school staff and I will be extremely busy the next two days. We are literally at the beck and call of the Team. The Team members have two days to “experience” the essence of Saklan and write their report to CAIS and WASC. Please allow me to apologize in advance for the inconvenience this may cause in our usual operations. After two days all will return to normal.
In closing, please allow me at to ask you to have your children dress in uniform or appropriately for the age group. I have noticed that we are slowly slipping into casual, aka sloppy, dress. Your help with this is much appreciated.
Reminder: Wednesday, March 3rd, is a noon dismissal.
Teachers will be working on Report Cards.
Have a great weekend and stay dry-
David A. Hague

Yearbook Dedications
The Yearbook Committee is busy working on the Saklan Valley Yearbook for 2009/2010. We are offering parents, grandparents, children, businesses, and friends the opportunity to place special personalized notes in the yearbook. You may write, type, or computer generate the dedications. Special pictures, drawings, and notes are all accepted. They just need to fit within the space purchased. We have posted dedications from previous years on the breezeway bulletin-board to give you some ideas.
