FRiday Note - FEbRuary-19-2010

Head's Corner

Dear Saklan Community:

Saklan’s CAIS/WASC re-accreditation team visit is right around the corner.  We are in the final stages of finalizing details, accommodations, and exhibits.  The Visiting Team arrives Sunday, February 28th and departs on the afternoon of March 2nd.  During their time on campus, they will be observing classes and speaking with students, teachers, PA Board officers, Trustees, and administration.  Each team member has received the Self-Evaluation Report and will assess our programs in light of that report and the CAIS and WASC standards.  It is an exciting time for Saklan.

Last week I had the pleasure of accompanying the Middle School when they went to the Alameda County Food Bank to work for the morning.  The task for this visit was to bag apples.  We emptied nine bins-over 6,300 pounds of apples; enough fro 5040 meals.

This week the fourth grade presented their Mission Projects to their parents and fellow students.  The depth and quality of their presentations were impressive.  Each student also made a replica of a specific mission.  The accuracy, detail, and artistic representation were truly remarkable.

I will be attending the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) Convention in San Francisco next Thursday.  It’s an excellent opportunity to talk to colleagues about national and state-wide trends, explore new programs and research, and touch base with friends from the east coast.  I will be back in the office in time for Flag on Friday.

Enjoy your weekend-

Auction Update

Hello Saklan Family and Friends:

You should have received your invitation to the upcoming Auction and party by now. If you have not, or if you want us to send an invitation to someone special, email Kate at Kate@deynet.com ASAP.

Turn in your RSVP early for the best value. Remember, the price goes up after March 12th.

Consider getting a class table or two started so you can sit with friends new and enduring. Create a class Evite to get people signed up. Let us know if we can help!

Think about ways to share sitters for the evening. This can cut the cost and the kids will have their very own “party”.

Plan your attire for the evening. Tommy Bahamas is a great venue and Macy’s has cruise wear in stock right now.

We are beginning to write up donation descriptions right now. Get those donation forms into the office or emailed to Carol or Kate right away.

Donate something… we have some great items from the Saklan family and the broader community but we need more dinners, brunches, wine, services, adventures, wine, experiences, did I say wine?

Visit the Auction website and blog.

Warmest regards,

Kate Dey & Carol Goldman
