FRiday Note - January-22-2010
Head's Corner
Dear Saklan Parents:
In a departure from my usual Friday message, I would like to share a few random thoughts.
- I attended an Auction meeting this morning; this is going to be a great party/event.
- The second grade was amazing this week. Their poems were very well presented and portrayed.
- Can’t wait for the fifth grade Tall Tales presentations next week.
- How come a short week seems sooooo long?
- I will be making my high school admissions calls in early February.
- Merit Scholarship applications and paperwork are now available in the front office.
- “Aloha!” to the seventh grade; they leave on Saturday morning for Hawaii.
- The Campolindo Chorus will be performing for us next week; they are really good.
- Family Fun Night is tonight; please come join the mayhem. It’s a wonderful time for kids and parents. Ms. Joelle and I will be there to help with crowd control.
- Wednesday, February 3rd is a noon dismissal for professional development.
- The sixth grade gets their first human development seminar next week. Can’t wait to se their faces.
Enjoy the sunshine while it lasts. See you tonight.

Auction Update
Happy Friday Saklan Families:
It's new and it's cool!
Check out the Auction blog for updates and cutting edge news regarding our cornerstone fundraising event and community party.
Your auction Chairs are excited to announce that the planning for our March 27th auction and party is well under way. We have met with our catering manager, our auctioneer and the amazing room parents. We are inspired by the energy and support of the parent community but we are still seeking volunteers for the lead up to the event and for the night of the event as well. If you even have a small amount of time to volunteer or a special skill to share, check out our blog for our contact information and sign up today.

From our board of trustees
Kudos to Kate
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I would like to thank Kate Dey and her Development Committee for doing a fabulous job of spearheading this year’s Annual Giving campaign. We are all grateful for their enthusiastic efforts to help the children of Saklan Valley School.
Like virtually every other independent school, we rely on fund raising to meet a portion of our annual budget. At Saklan, tuition only covers about 89% of the cost of educating our students. The funds raised by Annual Giving and the Auction are vital to maintaining and enhancing our excellent program.
Thank you to all the parents, teachers, staff, grandparents, and Board members, who have already given to the campaign. Your generosity really does make a difference and is deeply appreciated.
If you have not made a donation yet, it’s not too late. We are truly all in this together for the sake of our children.
We <3 Saklan.

The 2009-2010 Annual Giving Fund
We Are All In This Together: Goal: $130,000
Our Annual Giving fund is our top annual fundraising priority because it helps close the gap between tuition and the increasing cost of school operations. It provides essential flexibility and maximum benefit in directing resources to the areas of greatest need, such as teacher salaries. With your generous support, we are able to retain talented faculty, support language, art and music programs and fund needed facility improvements as well as our financial aid program.
We invite you to help sustain our wonderful school through your generous support of our Annual Giving Fund each year. All gifts, large and small, directly benefit current students. You donation is put to immediate use on campus for your child today!
Thank you for your support of Saklan.
