FRiday Note - January-15-2010
Head's Corner
Dear Saklan Community:
I include below the descriptions of the scholarship opportunities for next year. The Academic Merit Scholarship requires a comprehensive application process. The application and supporting paperwork will be available in the front office and on our website early next week.
Head’s Scholarship
At the discretion of the Head of School and the Director of Admissions and in consultation with the faculty, the Head’s Scholarship is awarded to that ascending Middle School student who consistently demonstrates the best characteristics of a Saklan student, including academic achievement, character, and active participation in the school community. This need-based scholarship will not exceed $10,000 per year, and will be renewed annually through graduation, assuming the recipient meets scholarship expectations.
Academic Merit Scholarship
At the discretion of the faculty and in consultation with the Director of Admissions and Head of School, the Academic Merit Scholarships will be awarded to a student going into the fourth through eighth grades and who demonstrates exceptional academic performance, character, and leadership. Eligible applicants include new students who are applying for admission to Middle School for the 2010-2011 academic year or currently enrolled Saklan students who will be rising into the fourth through seventh grades for the 2010-2011 academic year. To be considered applicants must complete all Academic Merit Scholarship application requirements as outlined in the supporting documents. The Scholarships consist of a tuition remission award renewed annually through graduation, assuming the recipient meets scholarship expectations. For the 2010-2011 academic year, the award amounts are as follows: the Lower School (4th & 5th grades) scholarship award is $12,000. The Middle School award is $16,000.
Betty Hague Scholarship (funded by the Hague Family)
At the discretion of the faculty and Head of School, the Betty Hague Scholarship is awarded to that current Saklan student in kindergarten through eighth grades who demonstrates exemplary character, academic diligence, and social leadership. Mrs. Hague’s commitment to education has opened educational opportunities to numerous children and families. Her generosity provides assistance to students so they may attend independent schools and participate in field trips and co-curricular school activities. The successful candidate will be awarded $3,000 tuition assistance. The Betty Hague scholarship is a one-year, need-based award.
Should questions arise regarding these scholarships, please feel free to give me a call or stop by the office.
Many thanks to the Middle School and participating families for donating over 900 pounds of food to the Alameda County Food Bank.
Have a great long weekend-
David A. Hague
Head of School
