FRiday Note - June-12-2009

From The Head of School

Dear Saklan Community:

As we finish this academic year, I would like to thank all those who helped with Graduation. It was a wonderful event; the faculty introductions were excellent, the students’ presentations to the graduates were amazing, and the music extraordinary.

We have received the some preliminary results from the Parents’ Surveys. At the Board of Trustees’ Retreat, the OMP Group shared some direct quotes, and I would like to share them with you. More thorough and detailed information will be available in September. I realize that Saklan is not perfect; however, I like to end the year on a high notes.

The following is a sample of some of the complimentary comments offered by survey respondents:

  • “I really love Saklan’s focus on individual attention as well as being part of the community.”
  • “We have had a wonderful experience at Saklan so far.”
  • “Saklan Valley is a little gem!”
  • “We love Saklan. We hope that it can continue to grow and thrive...”
  • “…school faculty…has been concerned and diligent in their efforts to provide my daughter with a superior education.”
  • “…Saklan Valley School is an excellent school and I feel good about my child being there every day...”
  • “…Our son is thriving, engaged and very content. Loves school! Not too many middle schoolers “love” school!!” (“My child has grown academically, socially, and emotionally. He has self-confidence and is eager to go to school.”

Have a wonderful summer. I look forward to seeing you in August.

Rummage Sale

Dear Saklan Community:

We don’t need to raise a barn exactly, but…

We can think about the three R’s…

Reuse, recycle and raise money

A group of parents have been brainstorming about ways to raise funds for the school.

We’ve decided to have a huge** rummage sale this summer. All proceeds will directly benefit the school.

The dates of the sale will be Saturday, August 1 – Sunday August 2.

We will hold it in my yard. We chose this location because it’s close to Lamorinda, Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek, Concord and Martinez.

  • PLEASE think about what you might be able to donate.
  • (We have parents who have volunteered to pick-up stuff from you house if you can’t bring it to mine.)
  • PLEASE think about possibly working at the event. We’ll need people to sort, tag and then work at the sale.
  • ALSO…PLEASE think about stopping by to buy.
  • AND FINALLY…PLEASE tell lots of people about what an AMAZING sale it will be.

THANKS SO MUCH!!

My location is 3293 Withers Avenue in Lafayette. (I’m literally across the street from Pleasant Hill).

Please let me or another co-chair know if you can help, donate, etc. etc. etc. (We need a lot of the etc.)

The co-chairs of this event are:

  • Eliza Kirkpatrick
  • Lisa Rokas
  • Annie Barendregt
  • Pat and John Lawicki

(YOU TOO COULD BE A CO-CHAIR…)

Thanks so much,

Diane Wilcox
