Carol and I had a fun morning at Saklan and it seems our grape outfits were a hit…lots of giggles from the kids and robust laughter from the adults. Being an auction chair is work but it is also great (grape) fun!
We want to take this opportunity to remind you of several very important deadlines:
- RSVP’s need to be in to the front office (or postmarked if mailed) by 5:00PM on Friday, March 12th in order to receive the $100 per ticket rate; the cost goes up to $120 per ticket on the 13th:
- Consider sponsoring the attendance of a teacher or two when you RSVP
- Don’t forget to select your dinner choice
- Think about requesting a class/group table
- Donation forms need to be in the office by 5:00PM on Monday the 15th of March in order to be included in the catalog:
- Please include any brochures, pictures, or business cards with your form, if you have them
- We could still use a few very specific donation items:
- Wine (hence the grape outfits today) for drinking during the event and for bidding on during the cocktail auction
- Parties: consider going in with another family and holding a summer BBQ, a wine tasting garden gathering, a football tailgating party or a hiking picnic hosted by a naturalist…if you can think of it, we know someone will bid on it
- Dinners at your favorite restaurant or a month of meals by your favorite home chef
- Raffle time is coming:
- Teacher raffles will begin in a couple of weeks (read your Friday note for details)
- The Auction Raffle item (A Tahoe Cabin) will have pre-event ticket sales beginning on Friday March 19th right after Flag; tickets are $100 and only 52 cards will be sold
Remember, by supporting your Annual Auction, you are supporting our teachers and our students!
Saklan’s evening of California Dreaming will be a fun party and a great opportunity to show you care.
See you there!
What does it take to make an Auction Co-Chair?
A little bit of crazy, tons of dedication, little need for sleep, the ability to juggle cats, attention to detail, able to deny the dwindling days to the event and…the support of an entire school community!
Carol and I are working away mornings, days and into the night on the details to make this year’s Annual Auction a fun party and a great fundraiser for Saklan Valley School. Invitations will be mailed this week and volunteers are signing up to help…but we still need more!
Contact us right away if you would like to join the Auction team (aka A-Team) by donating some time prior to the event or the night of the Auction. Needed: Solicitation of items, packaging, set-up, check-out, clean-up.
We also need donations from the Saklan community. Do you have a cabin, condo or timeshare to donate? Have you considered teaming up with a friend to throw a party? Do you provide a service you think our community might need? Have you asked your favorite Chef, stylist, mechanic, or restaurant owner to donate?
We may be the Co-Chairs for our School’s Annual Auction but this is your party. We need your support and enthusiasm to make it an evening to remember. If you are not sure how you can help, just ask…I am sure we can suggest something (wink, wink).
Thank you! Kate and Carol

We are excited to be writing to you about our upcoming Annual Auction.
We are equally excited about this year’s theme, California Dreaming, because we believe it not only provides a great backdrop for gathering as a community for fun and fundraising, but it also represents our geographic place in America as well as the core ideals of what we provide at Saklan.
Our School resides in the beautiful Moraga Valley in the San Francisco Bay region of the beautiful state of California. We are clearly blessed by location, environment and the feeling of community. We are also dreamers in all the very best sense of the word. We still dream of and believe in the gift of a great education. We have all made the commitment to do what it takes to provide our children with the very best access to a learning environment that will provide them with the tools for future success. What they learn today at Saklan Valley School will stay with them whether they remain in California or move to other distant horizons.
As your Auction Chairs, we want to invite you to dream along with us. Dream about what Saklan has brought into your life; new and sustaining friendships, amazing teachers, smiles from your children, math questions you just cannot answer, watching your child give their first PowerPoint presentation, singing Happy Birthday to them along with the entire school, coffee with other parents, and the magic of feeling they are happy, safe and learning each and every day.
We want to ask you to put the evening of March 27th, 2010 on your calendar now and to continue to dream along with us. Dream about an evening of music, sipping wine, great food, time to connect with friends and other Saklan families, an opportunity to go out on a “date”, a sense of competition as you try to outbid your best friend, and a chance to have fun while you support the school you have chosen for your child. In short, come dream with us and help us make the dream of a successful auction into a California style reality.
We would also like to ask that you do a few things prior to the auction evening.
Please take the attached solicitation forms to any service provider you utilize and ask them to donate. You can also go online and download additional copies. Don’t worry if you feel a bit awkward in asking for donations, we have attached a tip sheet on how to get started. Keep in mind, you are asking them to support a great school, a place where your child is growing and thriving daily.
As you go about your daily shopping and errands; keep us in mind. You might discover a great new place to eat, you could have the sudden urge to buy two of the best deal item you have found, you might receive a gift that you want to send our way. Be creative, have fun, think of Saklan!
Read the list of suggestion on our blog for donation ideas. Whether it is from this list or something you come up with on your own, try to donate at least one item for this year’s upcoming auction. We have attached a donation form for your convenience; they are also available on this website (see the link).
Keep an eye out for your invitation in February. Please RSVP early so that we are clear on attendance for the Resort and caterers. Consider bringing friends and family to the event; have them clear their calendars for that evening now.
Happy New Year and keep on dreaming!
